Saddle Up!

Spent the weekend cleaning and oiling up my father’s saddle. His father had the saddle made for him at a saddlery in Great Falls, Montana when he was still a tween (if there was such a thing back then). After a trip to a shoe repair store for Lexol glycerine soap and lotion/oil, I got busy with the toothbrush and rags. The saddle wasn’t dirty, but transformation was still amazing- there are no before pictures, but the saddle was black from mixed grime & horse sweat and splattered with green and white paint.
Dad hadn’t had a chance to ride since some refurbishment was done on the saddle last spring. Rudy the horse and I were the last to saddle up. Rudy models the saddle below…
